Self-image is the foundation

Self-image is “the idea, conception, or mental image one has of oneself.”, according to Random House Dictionary

Self-image is our perception of self, it includes how we see ourselves physically, psychologically, intellectually, and character and competence wise. It has evolved based on our experiences in life, through relationships, events and incidents that have happened in our lives and continues to change as we do. It reflects our beliefs, values, and self-worth and is the main driver behind our mindset, habits, actions, and self-talk. Basically the engine that runs our internal storytelling.

Who you think you are

It’s not really about who you are, it’s about who you think you are. It’s your perception that determines your experience of yourself. And you can only change yourself within the boundaries of your perception. So the key is to look deeply into your perception of self if you desire to make changes to your habits, behavior, or to your life.

The best place to start figuring out who you think you are is to listen to the stories you tell yourself about you. Humans are meaning making storytelling machines and there is a constant storyteller in your head.

Start making notice of the repeating patterns in your story and journal about your findings. You might be surprised of the narrative that is ongoing. My Joy-Led Life Design workbook helps you to look at the story you currently telling and helps you re-write that story.

Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.
